PT: Simplicist's Geneva Venturi

Due to some severe boredom today I decided to keep track of all the sims from pixel_trade  members I've used in my game so far. Every few posts here I'll make a post to pixel_trade because I don't want to spam that community with my families. :)

The first sim I've ever used from a pixel_trade member was Geneva Venturi by simplicist. I enjoyed her Venturi legacy very much and was really happy when she was married by Isidore Friedman, one of my heirs of generation 18.

Color meme!

This was shamelessly stolen from brilliantcat  and others:

you are turquoise

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is higher than average - You know what you want, but sometimes know not to tell everyone. You value accomplishments and know you can get the job done, so don't be afraid to run out and make things happen.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

It's quite accurate for me, too. I still don't know why that makes me a turquoise, though. :D

Best things ever for Sims 2?

I'm grabbing this meme from alleliua because I love to read what other people think of being their most essential downloads.

Answer the question: What are the five best things you've ever downloaded for the Sims?

- Make a list, in no particular order.
- Be specific. "Default skintones" is a bad answer. "Defaults" is a really bad answer.
- Links are love.
- More than five? That's why honourable mentions were invented.

My answers:
1. Twojeff's ACR. I've used it for 3 years now and can't imagine to ever play without it again. I love ACR because it decides for me which partners my sims choose, how many babies they'll have and so on. It's like watching a soap opera instead of guiding them myself, so playing never gets boring for me. :)
2. Twojeff's Find-A-Mate Crystall Ball. It has never been easier to find the perfect mate for my sims. When they grow up to be teenagers I beam their five best matches over to my lot and check their attraction scores (via ACR menu: Casual > Will I woohoo?). The three to five teens per generation with the highest attraction scores towards another sim will form the next generation.
3. Piggi's Recolors for the whole Maxis furniture in game. I've dumped almost every piece of custom furniture after I had raided that site. Now I can mix and match every piece of the furniture already in game because everything now matches in color. That's why I don't need any custom furniture now - ok, except a few highlights I didn't have the heart to get rid of. :)
4. Empty templates for my neighborhoods. Before I knew that these existed I had to marry off the ugly townies to my spares so that the game will generate new and hopefully prettier townies. And that leads me to ...
5. Face templates. I used terrakosmos' set when I first discovered what a great invention these were. They inspired me to make my own two sets (set 1, set 2), and I've used the second one ever since. :)

Spookymuffin deserves an honorable mention for her lighting mod. My screenshots look so much brighter and full of color since I've used it!

My game hates me :-(

I knew something bad had happened when all of a sudden the entries of my pie menu looked somewhat scrambled. I had been playing for a few hours just fine, and suddenly those blue oval things looked like they had holes in them. I switched to buy mode and noticed that almost all of the little preview pics were gone - instead it said something like "No pic". I predicted a game crash in the next few seconds, so I saved and exited the game.

When I went to play again the next day everything appeared to be fine, until one of my sims brought home a coworker whose outfit consisted of a white texture with lots of black and red writing on it. No problem, I thought, it's just a corrupted objects.package. So I overwrote those files from my Apartment Life DVD and thought everything would be fine. It wasn't. The wonky textures were gone, but now the little portraits would randomly disappear from the list on the left side. It's not that bad when you can use the lot debugger to have them regenerate, though. But the worst thing is that now the game stops about every one or two minutes (real time) to reload. The little hourglass will pop up, turn and turn for about 10 seconds, then the game will continue. It will run fine for one minute, then the same thing will happen again.

I'm going to uninstall AL now, then reinstall it. I hope this will fix it - otherwise I'll have to uninstall everything and then reinstall every single one of my 14 sims CDs/DVDs. That's not even funny how long this will take. :(

Pronounciation - learn it!

The moment I read about the plane crash in Butte, Montana, I was wondering how the people on TV would pronounce the name of the town. Since I had spent one year in Montana myself as an exchange student 13 years ago I knew that it was pronounced like "beauty" without the "y". I understand that it's not very obvious when you just see how it's written. But what did the woman on the German news website I just found call it? "Butt". Yep, as in "ass". Jesus Christ. They didn't even manage to pronounce "Bozeman" correctly either - they said something like "Botsman", similar to "Botswana". I need to rip out some of my hair now ... :(
